Markéta Irglová - Crossroads

Some nice shots of Wallachia sprinkled through this clip. See if you can spot the main square of Nový Jičín.

Už Jsme Doma - Hollywood (live 2005)

Mňága a Žďorp, Niceland, Please the Trees and Traband have all performed in Olomouc in the last month or so. To make my musical year complete all I'd like now is for Už jsme doma to announce a concert. Thumbs held and fingers crossed.

NiceLand - Lost In Encryption

This band played an unexpected concert at my local jazz club on Friday night. The concert they should have played in Havířov fell through at the last minute and on their way home from there, they managed to arrange to play a free concert in Olomouc.

They look good, sound great and are very tight on stage.

Jaromir Nohavica - Fotbal

Mike mentioned Ostrava football fans last week, and that made me think of this...

Traband - Černej pasažér

A suitcase full of useless rubbish,
And a map wrapped up in a roll
But my train’s leavin’ from the other platform
And my ticket ran out long ago...

Brilliant!

Borrega - Čankišou

Kiwi inspiration with undertones of Africa from world music specialists Čankišou

Bujon - Midi Lidi

Continuing the bands-from-outside-Prague theme (Narcotic Fields are from Olomouc and Please the Trees are from Tabor) here's a band from Brno. Kind of.

This 2007 article explains Midi Lidi's connection to the city, the idea of 'electronica with a human face' and influences from Kraftwerk to Chumbawumba. (Google translate should lower any language hurdles).

Anděl (Angel) - Xindl X

Welcome back to Monday Music clips, which will return to the blog while I take a break from writing for at least a month -I work in a backpackers' hostel and summer is the busiest time, but I'm also working as a walking tour guide for the summer (I had to replace my six year old computer last week and I can really use the extra money) and there's just not enough time left over for blogging, I'm afraid.

The "Where the Czech...?" photo challenges will continue each Friday, and I'll be posting a Czech music or movie clip each Monday for the next six weeks or so.

This is Anděl by Xindl X and it's the catchiest tune on local radio at the moment. Keep an eye out for the wink at Bohemian Rhapsody towards the end.

Joey from the Swamp

Long-time readers might remember that this song has been on this blog before, but I thought it was about time we all heard it again ;-)

No, don't come looking!

Iva Bittova was the first Czech musician who really caught my ear when I first came here years ago. At the time it was like nothing I'd ever heard before. This is "Ne, nehledej!" from a concert in 2006.
