Where the Czech...? #134

Does anybody recognise this place? Bonus points for naming the characters depicted by the statues.

Could it be the virtues at Kuks?

It is Kuks. Well done, Mike.

No bonus point though ;-)

Are these the commemorative statues of the 1202 national ice hockey side that won the very first European championships?

Hehe!

These twelve statues are the twelve classical vices. The corresponding twelves virtues spread out to the opposite side of the old Baroque hospital at Kuks.

Whether sculptor Braun took his inspiration from the great championships of 1202 before ice hockey was even played on ice is difficult to say.

Would be an interesting match to see the 12 virtues against the 12 vices though. Laziness, Gluttony and Frivolity may be no match for Patience, Diligence and Bravery, but with Cunning, Greed and Pride still on the ice, it ain't over yet folks...
