It's somewhere where there's a rise on the bank of the river, where there're houses and then up to the 'feature' building.
I can't work out if it's a river or a lake. My first instinct was Krumlov actually, but I'm probably wrong.
It's not the right answer, but your logic is sound. Czechs sometimes compare the town in the picture with Cesky Krumlov...

I am not sure, but perhaps Lemberk? Your pictures are getting more challenging. All that time on your bike has given you time to plot.

OK, now you are taunting us. Since I can't get any work done while this mystery haunts me, I did some Internet work. Is it Ledec nad Sazavou?
It is Ledeč. Apparently it reminds some people of Cesky Krumlov. As a small town with a chateau divided by a river that is popular with canoeists, I can understand the comparison.
Any visitor who goes there expecting the streetscapes and atmospohere of Cesky krumlov is probably going to be pretty disappointed though. Just goes to show locals are not always the best ones to ask for travel advice.
