Where the Czech...? #45

This week's Where the Czech...? is one for the armchair botanists amongst us. What's the latin name of this plant and where in the Czech Republic is this bush growing?

Just kidding. The real photo is below. Do you know where it is?

I have no idea - actually, but I'm going to throw a name out there anyway:

Kromerziz

You've gotta be in it to win it!

I agree, it is Kromerziz. The flower is a camellia which was named by a Czech Jesuit priest Georg Kamel. I have some Camellia's in my garden here in South Carolina.

I can't believe I got it! Ah, the wonderful power of logic :-)

So then Camellia is the Latin for the species anyway? In Japanese it's Tsubaki.

Kroměříž it certainly is. A segment of the magnificent baroque pleasure gardens to be precise. Good educated guess!

Michael, we seriously have to get you onto a television quiz show. Do you have 'Mastermind' in the USA?
