Where the Czech...? #38

Anybody know which town this building is in? And what it is specifically?

it appears to be a gate of some kind at a Jewish Cemetery?

I'm gonna say it's in Trebic, because that's the only one I ever saw.

It is at a Jewish cememtery, but not the one in Trebic. Other than that you're on the right track...

I hear you're leaving on your cycle trip soon - will we be without Oddsocks for a time, or will you be posting on the road?

I hope to be able to keep up with posting, especailly the Where the Czech photos.

I usually miss one week a month for some reason or other, and I guess it'll be roughly the same while cycling. I plan to leave Sunday morning for either Bouzov or Lostice and then to Moravska Trebova the next day.

A friend of a friend lives there and will be able to show me around, I hope.

That's assuming I can find a way to squeeze all this stuff into my panniers...:-§

Is it Holešov?

It is Holešov. Well done Jay; that wasn't an easy one.

The building is the ceremonial hall near the entrance to the Jewish cemetery, which is among the most valuable (historically) in the country.

For anyone who's wondering, Holešov is less than 20km east of Kroměříž and the same distance north of Zlín (Gottwaldov-remember?)

I think you know me Mr. Socks. This is Jameson. :) I wanted to say that you have a great blog. I enjoy reading your insights into the different aspects of Czech culture and places to visit.

Cheers Jameson!
I had a suspicion that you and Jay might be the same person. I'm glad you're reading and finding some of it interesting or useful. Maybe you could chip in with a guest-post about Prostějov some day...?;-)
Hope to catch up soon, Greg.

P.S. Jameson, are you going to the Ride of the Kings at Kunovice next week, or Vlcnov the week after?

I do give a 'tour' of Prostějov when people come visit me. Obviously it is quite short. :) However, there are many nice trails around Prostějov, especially on the way to Mostkovice, Plumlov and Konice. In the city itself, there are only a few things of historical importance to see, but I think it is a nice small city. :)

I wasn't aware of the Ride of the Kings next week in Kunovice or Vlcnov. Which one would you recommend?

Sorry to be so late responding.

I'd say the Ride at Kunovice is more of a locals' event, and the one at Vlcnov is better promoted and draws more outsiders. They even have their own website.

But I guess you've made your decision by now, J.

This year there's also the ride at Hluk, which only happens every third year. 6th of June if I remember rightly?
