Where the Czech...

Everyone who writes in English about the Czech Republic sooner or later stoops to punning. I've resisted for a long time, but here it is, 'Czech' to rhyme with 'heck'. At least it's better than punning 'check' as in Czech Inn, Czech it out...
I was looking at Brett Atkinson’s blog on the Gadling website a few days ago and they do a thing called ‘Where on earth?’ One of the writers posts a photo from his/her travels and finds out which reader is quickest to recognise it. And what do we do with good ideas? That’s right-rip them off lock, stock and barrel!

We’ll start with an easy one; it’s one of the Czech Republic’s larger cities and most travellers pass through it at some time or other… Anybody recognise it?

Woooo! Three comments in less than 24 hours! That's a record for this blog. 'Where the Czech' is hereby declared a regular feature, shall we say once a week or so, on a Tuesday or Wednesday?

The answer is indeed České Budějovice. The Samson fountain, black tower and the largest open square in Central Europe are all to be seen in that shot. To be fairer to Michael, the next one will be somewhere from the northern half of the country. Perhaps it needs to be a little harder as well?

See you next week...
